Science

We are currently exploring the solar system in our science lessons.  We reviewed what we already know about the solar system, and we shared strategies that help us remember the order of the planets.  Students identified the two ways earth moves: orbiting and revolving.  They learned that the earth rotates on its axis once approximately every 24 hours and that the earth revolves around the sun in a year's time.  They made connections between the rotation of the earth and day/night, and earth's tilt on its axis and the seasons.  We’ll study the changes that occur in the observable shape of the moon over the course of a month.  Be sure to check out the current moon phase on the bottom right-hand corner of this page!  We'll wrap up our study with a visit to the PCIS Planetarium on Friday, January 29th.
